Danielle Harvey will find her studies at Ivy Tech Community College in Madison a little easier this year thanks to receiving a Loretta M. Burd Scholarship Award from Centra Foundation. The $1,000 award will enable Danielle to leave her part-time job and concentrate on earning a Human Services degree and family life with her husband, Chris and their three children.
Danielle is pursuing a Human Service degree. Danielle has worked through a number of life challenges including the death of her brother. She is determined to earn her degree in 2016 and is motivated by the knowledge that her brother wanted her to complete her education.
Danielle was one of two adult students in South Central Indiana to receive the scholarship award. Lyn Morgan, President Centra Foundation spoke about the award, “The Centra Foundation Board is delighted to award a Loretta M. Burd Scholarship to Danielle. We were impressed by Danielle’s determination to work through a number of life challenges and set pathway for personal success. Danielle is focused on earning her degree and using education to providing a better quality of life for her family.”
Danielle shared, “The scholarship awarded by Centra Foundation has helped me achieve my dream of finishing college. The scholarship money has helped me financially achieve my dream and emotionally. It has made me realize that if I set my mind to something nothing will stand in my way.”
Andrea McDole, Assistant Director of Resource Development at Ivy Tech shared, “It is always such a blessing to see students overcoming difficult situations in life to succeed! Danielle is not only changing her own life, but is such a positive role model for her children.”
Centra Foundation believes it has made a sound investment in Danielle and her family’s future. Loretta M. Burd Scholarships are made possible due to donations from Centra members, employees and friends. Centra Foundation awards ten scholarships annually to high school seniors and adult students who are members of Centra Credit Union. The application process for the 2015-2016 school year will open in December 2015.
