Smart Money Family Fun Bike Ride - Register Now!!

May 15, 2016

Its time to sign up for Smart Money Family Fun Bike Ride!!   It will be on Saturday, August 6th and will start and finish at the Columbus Municipal Airport.   This is not just a bike ride but a wonderful opportunity to participate in money related games and activities while having fun with family and friends. Its just $5 for children 4-18 years of age.  There are great prizes too, including three grand prizes of $100 gift certificates.

Adults and children had a wonderful time on our inaugural ride.   We received lots of great feedback. Andi Orben told us;

My family and I so enjoyed the bike ride! My husband and I are educators so we definitely value the financial literacy programs you support. We loved the educational component. Our kids (ages 10, 9 and 7) learned about local history, the cost of a college education, health, caring for the environment, car loans and WWII! The ride and activities were energizing for our bodies and minds. We look forward to next year.”

How to Register

There are three age categories to register; 4-8, 9-13 and high school adult.  The on-line registration fee for children aged 4-18 is just $5! The adult fee is $35.

Choice of Routes

The ride starts at the Columbus Municipal Airport and offers two routes.  The main 14 mile route follows the People Trail through the Columbus park system.  Stops include North High School, Mill Race Park, Lincoln Park and the Atterbury – Bakalar Air Museum.  The shorter five mile route is designed for young riders.  Its ideal for walkers too!

What to Expect

There will be several games and activities at the airport to test your knowledge about money and saving before starting on the ride.   Activities include;

  • Bob Poynter will have fuel efficient cars on display
  • The Columbus Bike Co-op will highlight cost savings of riding a bike.
  • You might be successful playing the Price is Right!

On the Day

Registration and check-in for those who registered on-line starts at 8:15 a.m. Riders can head out on the two routes at 9:00 a.m. and have until 9:30 a.m. to start their ride.  Riders who hand in completed question sheets at the end of their ride are eligible to win prizes including $100 gift certificates. We will award prizes at the completion of the ride at approximately 12:00 p.m.

Have Fun while Supporting Financial Literacy Education Programs

Proceeds from the event will support and expand financial literacy programs Centra Foundation provides to local second grade and high school students.  Currently over 800 Bartholomew County students benefit from the programs.
