The application process for the 2017 Loretta M. Burd Scholarship will open in mid-December. Ten scholarships each valued at $1,000 will be awarded in May 2017. The scholarship program is named in honor of Loretta Burd who retired in 2012 after 47 years of service including 25 years as Chief Executive Officer.
Centra Foundation and Centra Credit Union place a high value on education and the importance of individuals pursuing higher education opportunities to earn college degrees. The Foundation offers two scholarship opportunities. Graduating High School seniors are encouraged to apply for the Loretta M. Burd High School Scholarship. Applications are evaluated on academic achievement, school and community involvement, and an essay on a financial literacy topic. Adults or non-traditional students should apply for the Loretta M. Burd Adult Scholarship program.
Scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors and non-traditional students who plan to attend a two or four year college, university, or technical school. Applicants must be a member of the Centra Credit Union with accounts that are in good standing.
Applications will be submitted through the Centra Foundation website. In addition to the form, applicants are required to write an essay and upload it into the application from. An official transcript or form signed by a school official should be submitted separately.
All items must be received by the Centra Foundation by Monday, February 13th.
